Ms. Shahin Nuruddin Shaikh is a highly dedicated educationist and social worker with over 35 years of experience in the field of disability rehabilitation and inclusive education. Since 1986, she has been actively involved in initiatives that empower visually impaired individuals through education, skill training, and community development.

  • Teaching & Early Career: Began her career as a teacher at Nirmala Convent High School, where she served for two years.

  • Work with NAB Maharashtra: Served for 25 years with the National Association for the Blind (NAB), Maharashtra, leading several landmark initiatives in education and rehabilitation for the visually impaired.

  • Major Projects & Achievements:

    • Established the MAHA-NAB School for the Blind, providing quality education and life skills to visually challenged students.

    • Founded the Teacher Training Centre for Teachers of the Blind, enhancing professional capabilities in special education.

    • Established the NAB Dr. Modak Research and Rehabilitation Centre for the Visually Challenged in Nashik — a nationally recognized initiative under NAB India that offers comprehensive, need-based programs in education, sports, healthcare, teacher and student training, skill development, and counseling.

Her work has been instrumental in empowering children with visual impairment and integrating them into mainstream education.

Projects & Initiatives for the Visually Impaired

  • Awareness & Inclusion: Conducted extensive outreach programs in remote areas to identify and mainstream children with visual impairment and low vision. Facilitated access to educational aids, appliances, and special education schemes across Maharashtra.

  • Mobile Blind School Project (School @ Home): Implemented a unique home-based education model for visually impaired students in Nashik district.

  • Inclusive Education Program: Executed a District-Based Inclusive Education Project across seven blocks in Amravati district.
